Pandemic Dampens Holiday Travel

The Fourth of July is traditionally a time for hot dogs, hamburgers, fireworks, and travel. Due to the spread of COVID 19 and the recent influx of cases across the US, this year could be different.

Ever since states from coast to coast began shutting down and issuing safer-at-home orders in March, travel has declined:

  • air and rail travel have each decreased by more than 70 percent 
  • bus travel has declined by nearly 50 percent

Conversely, before COVID became commonplace in the US, travel across all three modes of transportation was actually up from 2019: 4.39% for trains, 3.57% for busses, and .52% for air travel. Read the full TOP Data report.
