Earlier this year, the NH Center for Nonprofits conducted a survey regarding the effects of COVID-19 on nonprofit finances, staff, programs, and operations. The survey revealed that while relief funding helped many nonprofits survive, there is uncertainty about the future—donor fatigue, shifting priorities, etc.—and additional support is needed to prevent closures or reductions in services.
Another challenge is nonprofits are finding hiring difficult as they compete for talent in a tight labor market. That low-unemployment rate also affects employee retention. This is even more difficult for organizations that have had to delay hiring or reduce compensation while asking staff to adapt to new programs and modes of work.
While there's much to be concerned about, nonprofits and their government, philanthropic, and community partners have risen to the challenge through innovation, collaboration, and inspiration. A detailed analysis of the survey including charts is available at NHNonprofits.org.
