The new transition services program, Inspiring Mastery of Post-Secondary Achievement in College, Careers and Training (IMPACCT), is funded by NH Department of Education, Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation.
IMPACCT is offered to more than 900 students with disabilities throughout the Nashua, Manchester, Keene, Concord, Berlin and Lebanon regions using an experiential learning and competency-based approach with soft skills training braided throughout.
Current partnerships include the Community College System of NH (Manchester Community College, River Valley Community College, NHTI, Lakes Region Community College and White Mountains Community College), Department of Labor Office of Apprenticeship, Parent Information Center and many other stakeholders throughout NH.
The most recent transformation of the 2014 Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act has increased focus on efforts to encourage and support transitioning students with disabilities. The act is designed to help job seekers access employment, education, training, and support services to succeed in the labor market and to match employers with the skilled workers they need to compete in the global economy.
In 2016, NH Vocational Rehabilitation awarded Granite State Independent Living with a contract to provide the five pre-employment services to NH high school students with an Individualized Education Plan, a 504 Plan or who are potentially eligible for NHVR services:
- Job Exploration Counseling
- Work-based Learning Experiences
- Comprehensive Transition Program and Post-Secondary Education
- Workplace Readiness
- Instruction in Self-Advocacy
