Fidelity to Hire 500 in Merrimack

Boston-based Fidelity Investments is working to fill 550 new positions at its Merrimack location—part of a nationwide effort to fill 4,000 new client-facing positions across its U.S. locations over the next six months.

The financial services firm says it continues to hire new employees to stay ahead of unprecedented customer growth and customer engagement. This is on top of the 15% increase in the number of client-facing associates in 2020.

“We continue to see very strong growth, both in new accounts to Fidelity as well as deeper engagement from our existing client base,” says Kathleen Murphy, president of personal investing.

Recent market volatility and an increasingly complex economic environment is driving new and existing customers to open accounts, increase trading activity and the need for financial support and guidance.

While most positions do not require prior experience, some need to be licensed, says Fidelity spokesperson Kimberly Reingold. For the customer service positions, Fidelity seeks candidates who have relationship building skills and may have experience in the service or hospitality industry. Potential financial advisors should be people-focused, collaborative and driven.

Training and onboarding have been adapted in light of the pandemic, says Reingold. “We continue to integrate changes to the hiring process. Those include interviews via video and positions that include flexible schedules, remote learning and training, and work from home.”

Fidelity is also shipping laptops and other equipment to limit in-person pick-up or contact, while providing remote access to technology services for setup.

Beyond customer-facing, Fidelity continues to hire for other roles, including technology and operations and, nationally, will recruit 1,000 college and university students for its 2021 summer internship program as well as 500 2021 graduates to participate in post-graduate training programs.

“For our 2021 interns, while it’s too soon to tell what next summer brings, we are committed to our 2021 internship program,” says Reingold. “This past summer, Fidelity kept its commitment to over 1,000 individuals who were offered internships. The 2020 Summer Internship program began in early June and went for nine weeks. There were 1,000 interns across the U.S. who joined us virtually to keep everyone safe and healthy during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
