Eversource Donates Gloves to Military

U.S. Air Force Reserves Master Sergeant David Wilson, a supervisor of materials logistics at Eversource’s central warehouse in Bow, identified a large inventory of work gloves that are no longer used by the company’s line workers. So he led Eversource’s efforts to deliver more than 200 pairs of high-quality, heat- and cut-resistant gloves to U.S. Air Force Reservists who are traveling from Massachusetts to Puerto Rico to support recovery efforts following the powerful earthquakes in late December and early January.

“I had been thinking about the various needs the recovery team would have in Puerto Rico when I identified the surplus inventory of Kevlar gloves in the warehouse,” said Wilson. “The response when I proposed donating the gloves to our troops was phenomenal. I have never worked for another company that is as supportive of our active service members and veterans as Eversource is.”

Wilson, who was deployed during Desert Storm in 1991 and supported emergency response efforts following the attacks on 9/11, has served in the U.S. Air Force since 1988, and says he appreciates the importance of ensuring that service members and volunteers have the equipment they need when they responding to crises.

Eversource’s contribution of work gloves, valued at about $4,000, will help to keep volunteers safe when they are working to clear rubble and other hazardous debris in Puerto Rico. In addition to clearing damage caused by the earthquakes, the Reservists will be working with the Red Cross on providing continued relief in Puerto Rico.

“These gloves will improve the conditions for the people of Puerto Rico and help volunteers by providing safety during reconstruction and debris clean up,” said U.S. Air Force Master Sargent Jose Gonzalez, who is leading coordination between the U.S. Air Force and the Red Cross. “The 58th Aerial Port Squadron of the U.S. Air Force Reserve, the Red Cross and the people of Puerto Rico are extremely grateful for the contribution of personal protection equipment that Eversource has provided. It’s times like these when we see the goodness in people and organizations to help others in need.”

Eversource was recognized with the 2019 Defense Employer Support Freedom Award for supporting and empowering its more than 600 employees who are Guardsmen, Reservists, transitioning service members and veterans.
