Distillery Offers Skiers Socially-Distanced Sips

For skiers with nowhere to go after a long day on the slopes, Tamworth Distilling, which focuses on using local, ‘wilderness to table’ ingredients to create uniquely flavored, made from scratch spirits, has launched a Skiklubben Ski Lounge, a cozy outdoor area where guests can sip, snack, and unwind while being socially distanced.

Guests can cozy up to crackling campfires or relax at picnic tables while sampling tasting flights including the Skiklubben Aquavit. Additionally, light bites are available from the distillery’s sister café and retail space, Art in the Age Café.

“This isn’t the first time we’ve successfully pivoted our business operations to deal with complications caused by the pandemic, and I’m sure it won’t be the last,” said Steven Grasse, founder of Tamworth Distilling and head of liquor consulting agency Quaker City Mercantile. “This way, people who want to unwind after a long day on the slopes can take a load off in our Skiklubben Ski Lodge area. And, of course, we invite them to sample some of our spirits, especially the seasonally-apt Skiklubben Aquavit, a warming spirit perfect for facing the low temperatures we experience here in New Hampshire.”

Skiklubben Aquavit was inspired by the storied Nansen Ski Club in Berlin and offers a unique spin on the Nordic spirit traditionally made with dill and caraway. One of the first American distilleries to resurrect the age-old Scandinavian spirit, Tamworth Distilling has created this with a whiskey base (a blend of bourbon, barley and wheat whiskey) and a seasonal mix of wintery vegetables and spices, including parsnip, carrot, clove, anise, and cardamom.

In addition to the launch of the Skiklubben Ski Lounge, the distillery has announced a series of special wintry offerings related to the state's famously chilly winters. How Low Can You Go: If the temperature outside dips below 10 degrees at Tamworth Distilling (windchill counts!), tastings are just $5. When Hell Freezes Over: If it gets cold enough that a bottle of White Mountain Vodka left outside freezes, imbibers are eligible to receive free tastings.
