CMC Opens New Intensive Care Unit

Catholic Medical Center (CMC), a member of GraniteOne Health, opened a new 10-bed intensive care unit, ICU West, bringing to 30 the number of critical care beds CMC has to serve some of the most complex patients.

“From our cardiac surgery patients to those recovering from trauma and severe medical illness, we now have an even greater ability to give patients the right care, in the right place, at the right time,” says CMC President & CEO Joseph Pepe, MD.

Construction of the new unit included a renovation of CMC’s Inpatient Non-Invasive Cardiology suite, where admitted cardiac patients have diagnostic and follow up tests. The areas were designed by Lavallee Brensinger Architects. Harvey Construction managed construction of the project.

“Everyone on the critical care team has been looking forward to opening this new unit,” says ICU Director Kayla Fitzgerald, MSN, RN, CCRN.  “It’s designed with both the patient and the staff in mind so that we can provide the best possible care.”

The project is the latest in a hospital-wide renovation that began in September, 2017 to expand the hospital’s capacity and improve patient experience.  Prior areas include a new Clinical Decision Unit, a new suite for Outpatient Non-Invasive Cardiology, a refresh of the Emergency Department waiting room, a remodeled Sterile Processing Department, and renovated office spaces for administrative and support departments.
