Can Learning About Money Management Be Entertaining?

Published Thursday Mar 24, 2011

Need help getting your finances in order and preparing for life's twists and turns?

Join personal finance expert and author Michael Rubin for LIVING BEYOND PAYCHECK TO PAYCHECK, an educational seminar on April 13th at 6:30 p.m. at Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester.

"Learning about money is daunting to many of us," Rubin says. "This seminar will provide a comfortable forum to learn how to plan for your financial future - without someone trying to sell a product or service."

Rubin will explain why traditional budgeting is unnecessary and often unhelpful, and how to become fiscally responsible. He'll offer tips on managing debt so it goes away, and discuss why financial balance is important. Attendees will find out why credit cards are dangerous even if you pay the entire balance every month, and why many people can't save even after dramatically lowering their day to day spending-and what can be done to overcome this challenge.

Rubin will also highlight four of his "Top 10 Saving Strategies," focusing on the importance of having an emotional connection to your money; enjoying free stuff; "majoring on the major, minoring on the minor;" and not spending what you don't see.

More than half of all Americans live paycheck to paycheckand more than 1 in 5 of those earn at least $100K. "If you're living paycheck to paycheck, it's not because of the income you make, it's because of the decisions you make," Rubin says.

Rubin is the author of Beyond Paycheck to Paycheck: A Conversation About Income, Wealth, and the Steps in Between, and he gives financial seminars nationwide. His forthcoming book, The Savings Solution: How to Live for Today While Saving for Tomorrow will be released this year.
