Badger Joining Climate Strike Friday

W.S. Badger in Gilsum is joining the global climate strike by shutting down its operations and website for 24 hours. This Friday (the 20th) kicks off a week of action where millions will walk out of their workplaces and homes to demand immediate, just and equitable climate solutions on scale with the crisis before us.

“We are committed to doing our part to fight climate change. We believe it is the most pressing issue facing us as individuals and as a business,” says Emily Schwerin-Whyte, co-CEO of Badger. “On the 20th, we will join other companies, including Seventh Generation, Patagonia, Lush Cosmetics, and Ben & Jerry’s in supporting and elevating the message of the youth-led Global Climate Strike.”

According to a statement, the global youth movement is sounding the alarm on the climate crisis. Ever since Swedish student Greta Thunberg went on strike in August 2018, students around the world have organized school strikes demanding bold climate action. This September, youth are calling on all of us (individuals, business leaders, change-makers, public officials and everyone in between) to join them in catalyzing action in our communities.” the post reads.

Badger is closing its building on September 20th to allow employees to volunteer at local regenerative farms, and participate in local climate strikes. The website will be closed for business, too and visitors will instead find #ClimateStrike messaging and a call to action.

The company is also planning to donate 5% of all sales generated on badgerbalm.com from Sept 16-27, to AmazonWatch.org, a nonprofit working to protect the rainforest. More on the strike at https://blog.badgerbalm.com/global-climate-strike/
