For Granite State Credit Union (GSCU), being a great financial institution begins with being a great place to work—and that starts with engaged employees.
The credit union has built its culture around respect, integrity, commitment, innovation and passion. Guiding principles encourage employees to be bold, deliver exceptional service and embrace continuous learning.
Employee feedback plays a central role. Engagement surveys, focus groups and direct communication with executives have resulted in new training initiatives and improved internal communication. Staff also participate in GSCU’s “Service Champions” program, developing ideas to improve both the member and employee experience.
Professional development is another priority. Employees receive technical and leadership training, tuition reimbursement and individualized career development plans, helping many advance into leadership roles.
GSCU also distinguishes itself by extending comprehensive benefits to employees working at least 20 hours weekly. Eligible part-time employees have access to the same health, dental, vision, disability and retirement plans as full-time staff, and the credit union pays 80% of health care premiums for full-time employees. Family benefits include two weeks of paid family leave, while eligible full-time employees can receive up to $5,000 per child in adoption reimbursement.
Work-life balance is supported through fewer required Saturday shifts for branch employees, remote work where possible and paid volunteer time.
Through GSCU’s Celebration Summit platform, employees receive points for birthdays and work anniversaries that can be redeemed for gift cards, company merchandise, Amazon purchases and even hotel stays. Peer-to-peer recognition and companywide appreciation events further celebrate employees’ contributions.
