What drives a company’s mission are its people. Merchants Fleet has been investing in its employees and those investments are paying off. Merchants was recognized in 2022 and 2023 in Inc. Magazine’s annual Inc. 5,000 list of the fastest growing private companies in the Northeast.
Merchants offers Merchants Prime, which recognizes milestone anniversaries as well as employee achievements with points that allow employees to redeem Merchants apparel, additional paid time off, entertainment tickets, hotels, experiences, or products from Amazon. In 2023, 71% of Merchant’s employees used Merchants Prime for recognition, translating into 4,278 peer-to-peer recognitions (an increase of 64% over last year) and 587 supervisor-to-staff recognitions.
The company offers pickleball and basketball courts as part of its Mind, Body, Soul program launched in 2023. Under the Soul pillar, Merchants highlights its DEI initiatives, community gardens, and community engagement. Merchants launched the Diversity in Fleet Task Force, celebrates Juneteenth as a company holiday and has secured memberships for all Black employees to the Black Fleet Network (BFN), an organization crafted for, and dedicated to providing resources, community, and growth opportunities for professionals in the fleet industry.
Another program is Merchants Affordable Health Insurance through which the company covers, on average, 87% of medical premiums but also offers financial aid for those under certain
salary thresholds.
Investing in the future of its employees is also something Merchants takes seriously. In 2023, 77% of its employees were engaged in at least one professional development program, representing a 13% increase over 2022. The company offers relationship coaching between supervisors and employees, and between coworkers. The Merchants Mentor & Job Shadowing Program, offered annually, typically has over 100 participants.
