At this fast-paced, high-growth company, CEO Joe Army hosts monthly lunches with team members, selected at random, so he can hear their thoughts and concerns. An annual leader effectiveness evaluation allows employees to weigh in on how they think their team leaders are performing.

This medtech firm offers a “Bright Idea” program to generate new ideas from employees, from streamlining processes to improving workflow or reducing costs. Employees whose ideas are implemented are entered into a monthly drawing for a gift card and are eligible to earn the Bright Idea MVP award.

The culture at Vapotherm is performance focused, which means it’s about getting the job done. To that end, team members set their own schedules, goals and to the extent possible, time lines. As a medical device company, Vapotherm takes wellness seriously. A full-time worksite wellness coach hosts morning and after-work workout routines, a flu shot clinic and conducts biometric screenings.

The annual “Lab and Lecture for Leaders” development program is offered to directors in the company to enhance their knowledge and skills in all areas of the business.

In addition, Vapotherm holds an annual global development week when it gathers all employees to participate in training sessions, keynote presentations, celebrations and appreciation events. The capstone to the week is the “Patient of the Year” celebration when three patient families are brought in tell their stories to employees about how Vapotherm helped them.

Employees who exemplify Vapotherm's guiding principles are rewarded with stock options, $2,000 toward a vacation and five additional days off.
